I learned an enormous amount from this project, although I am still learning. It amazed me to witness the effect that the shutter speed had on the motion. I grasped that concept right away. I still hope to learn more when it comes to aperture and lighting, as I had to brighten most of my images at least a little bit in Photoshop during post editing. As you look through my pictures I will explain to you the different prep, settings, and post editing I made to each photo. I hope you enjoy!
Frozen Motion:
Doggie Snow Day: 1/22/16, 9:00 am, West Yellowstone, 18 mm, f/4, 1/800, Canon Rebel T5
These pictures were super fun to take, I would just have my boyfriend throw a snowball towards to camera and Charlie (the doggie) would run towards me. I would then proceed to take a burst of photos as she leaped and bound towards me. For this photo I got down low. I brightened up the image a little more and cropped it in post editing.

For this photo I used the same strategy, but took it from a higher perspective. I brightened this image and took out some distracting signage in the background for post editing.
Foggy Boarding: 1/21/16, 11:00 am, Kelly Canyon Ski Resort, 18 mm, f/4, 1/100, Canon Rebel T5
This photo was taken on a lower shutter speed, but as my boyfriend snowboarded by me I panned with him while taking a burst of photos. This resulted in him being fairly frozen (his feet are still a little blurry but he is frozen for the most part) and the trees behind him blurred. It was difficult to get clear/frozen photos due to it snowing and the fact that it was a super foggy day (which was a major bummer, but you have to deal with what mother nature gives you sometimes), so I brightened up the image a little more in post editing.

I didn’t have to balance the camera or anything due to the fast shutter speed which was nice, cause that’s always difficult to do while snowboarding. However, due to the fog he still turned out not quite as clear as I hoped, so I sharpened him up a little in Photoshop.
Blurred Motion:

To get the affect of the blurred dog, and blurred motion of my boyfriends hand while keeping the background clear I put the camera on a fairly low shutter speed and crouched down and balanced the camera on my knee. It was snowy and foggy as well this day, so I brightened the image in photoshop and removed any distracting signs from the background.
Speeding Bullet Dog: 1/22/16, 9:00 am, West Yellowstone, 18 mm, f/4, 1/10, Canon Rebel T5
This image was taken on a really low shutter speed, so I made sure to balance the camera carefully on my knee as I crouched. I had my boyfriend throw a snowball across the camera shot so that Charlie would chase it and then proceeded to take a burst of the Charlie running across.
I hadn’t originally planned to use this photo of a Jenga tower falling for the assignment, because i captured it while playing with settings on the camera in my apartment one night, but then decided that I liked how it turned out. It was fairly difficult to capture with just one person, and the lighting needed to be brightened quite a bit in Photoshop afterwards.
